Aurora is a city located in the central section of the state of Colorado.
The city is located in three counties: Arapahoe, Adams and Douglas Counties. Aurora is a Home Rule Municipality.
The city was originally incorporated as a town in 1903 and was named "Town of Fletcher" after Denver business man "Donald Fletcher". The city was renamed when it was incorporated as a city in 1929, as the city of Aurora.
As of 2007, the population of Aurora was 292,403. Aurora's nickname is "The Gateway to the Rockies".
